Dhoni has not played since India's semifinal exit from the ODI World Cup last year in July and there were speculations regarding his international career.

M.S. Dhoni was among the key players in India's World Cup triumph in 2011, both as a captain and a player.

Dhoni rose to superstardom in Indian cricket with explosive performances with the bat and his style of captaincy which earned him the name 'Captain Cool'. His life story was depicted in his biopic Dhoni, which starred Sushant Singh Rajput in the titular role.

His return to action is however anticipated in the upcoming IPL, which starts on September 19.
