KOCHI: The Enforcement Directorate (ED) let off M Sivasankar, former principal secretary to the chief minister, after five hours of questioning at the ED office in Kochi. Sivasankar has been asked to report again next week.
The ED had earlier given notice to Sivasankar to report for questioning in connection with the gold smuggling case. ED also said that the senior IAS officer would be grilled to know more about Swapna. ED is primarily probing about the two bank lockers of Swapna Suresh. A chartered accountant had earlier given statement that the locker was opened on Sivasankar's demand.
One kilogram of gold and money amounting to Rs One Crore was found in the lockers. ED will investigate whether this was a Benami deal of Sivasankar. Swapna has given a statement that the money in the locker was received as commission through Life Mission.
Sivasankar was earlier questioned by the National Investigation Agency and the Customs.
