kannamthanam

BJP leader and former Union Minister Alphons Kannanthanam has landed in a controversy after allegations were made that he did the final rites of her mother in Kerala after hiding the fact that she was Covid positive. Kannanthanam put up a Facebook post, denying the charges.

FB post:

Just a clarification on my mother’s demise :
1. She was tested COVID positive on 28th May and admitted to AIIMS ICU Delhi .
2. Repeat test on 5th June at AIIMS showed her COVID negative .
3. Repeat test on 10th June at AIIMS also showed negative .
4. Even though she was cured of Covid by 5th , her vital organs were badly damaged due to Covid . Her lungs collapsed and finally died of heart seizure.
4. So is it wrong to say that she died of Covid? When a person dies of brain injuries in a car accident, do we say that he/she died of brain injuries, or do we say that he/she died of a car accident? Obviously, car accident.

My mother was perfectly healthy at 91. She died because COVID destroyed her vital organs. A certain person , who does not even deserve to be named, has survived all his life blackmailing the society .
Leave us alone. We are trying to reach food to the hungry through MOTHERS MEAL.

The controversy was kicked off by social worker Jomon Puthenpurackal. He had put up a post on Sunday about Kannanthanam. He said that the BJP leader had not earlier revealed about his mother dying of COVID-19. After she died in Delhi on June 10, she was brought to Kottayam for burial on June 14, following a public homage. It was only in a later for his charity programme that that Alphons spoke about his mother having died of COVID-19.
