KOCHI: The Enforcement Directorate told the court that they have received indications that higher government officials have a role in the gold smuggling case. The ED while hearing the argument in Swapna Suresh’s bail plea also demanded that the role of the officials be investigated. The ED told the court that consul general asked the contractor of Life Mission to meet M Sivasankar, former principal secretary to the chief minister.
Meantime, Swapna admitted in the court that she had obtained commissions on many transactions. She told the court that the contractor had given money to the consul general and this cash was given to me by the latter. Swapna’s lawyer informed the court that this was what was found in the locker. The court asked why it was kept in the locker if it was not black money.
Swapna revealed the details of one crore commission, but it will be worth Rs four crore, the enforcement said. In addition to the Wadakkancherry project, UAE’s construction deal of 20 crore is for Unitech. This is how the commission became four crore. There was a deal of Rs 3.78 crore and a part of it was given to her as dirhams. The ED obtained information that a noted personality obtained money. It will be investigated whether the money obtained in Dubai had reached Kerala and whether it was used for the gold smuggling.
