IDUKKI: In a heinous crime, Vathikudy panchayat vice president Sreeja’s husband reportedly threw acid on her face. The incident took place on Tuesday afternoon at their house after quarrel between them.

Sreeja’s husband Anil has been taken into custody by Murikkassery police in this connection.

Sreeja had attended the panchayat administrative committee meeting in the morning and returned home by afternoon. She suffered acid burns on face and neck. It was she who called up her family members and police soon after the incident.

She was first admitted to hospital in Murikkassery and then to a private hospital in Thodupuzha. However, hospital authorities have said that the injuries are not severe.

Anil will be produced in the court on Wednesday.
