THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The state registered 2333 cases of COVID-19 on Wednesday, health minister KK Shailaja informed. This is the highest single-day spike in Kerala.

Among the new cases, 2151 persons developed the disease through contact including 53 cases without an identified source of infection. 60 persons came from abroad, while 98 persons returned from other states. 17 health workers also tested positive for the virus in the last 24 hours.

1217 coronavirus patients tested negative for the virus on Wednesday.

The state reported 7 deaths in the past 24 hours. The total death as of today is 182.

The total number of confirmed cases in the state crossed 50,000. There are 17, 382 active cases.

There are 1,69,687 persons under observation over various districts in the state including 13,759 in hospitals. On Wednesday alone, 1730 persons were admitted to hospitals.

In the past 24 hours, 36,291 samples were tested. A total of 12,76,358 samples were sent for testing so far.

The state declared 19 new hotspots on Tuesday while removing 12 places from the list
