THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Five hours have been granted for discussions in the no-confidence motion in the assembly session. The discussions will be held on Monday from 10 am to 3 pm. The time and chance to speak will depend on the number of members of various parties. The opposition is bringing the no-confidence motion against the government mainly highlighting the gold smuggling case. Meantime, permission was denied for motion against the Speaker. Approval was denied on the grounds that no notice was given fourteen days in advance.
V D Satheesan MLA gave a one-line motion registering his no-confidence on Pinarayi Vijayan government. A two-or-three-day discussion usually takes place in the house on a no-confidence motion notice. However, as the assembly is being convened for only a day, it was decided that five hours of discussion would be enough.
The motion is sure to get defeated. The opposition had raised major allegations against the chief minister and his office in the gold smuggling case. The no- confidence motion was brought by the opposition as part of a political move to turn the house into a platform for protest.
