NEW DELHI: The centre has intervened in the sensational Life Mission Project. The union foreign affairs ministry has sought the details of the aid accepted by the state from Red Crescent related to the project. They have asked to hand over the documents on it as soon as possible. The government sources have informed to hand over the details commanded.
The document breaking the claim that the contract for the execution of the controversial Life Mission housing project was awarded to UNITAC by Red Crescent, was exposed yesterday. The letter of Life Mission executive officer U V Jose to Red Crescent informing that the outline submitted by UNITAC on the project is satisfactory and can move forward with them, was exposed. A copy of the letter dated August 26, 2019 was sent to UNITAC stating that the government's claim that it did not know about their involvement in the project, is a lie. The letter has mentioned all help and has asked to complete the project within a year.
At a time when the controversy intensified, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan summoned all files seeking details from local administration and law departments. The chief minister’s detailed probe into the controversy erupted on the revelation that Swapna Suresh, accused in the gold smuggling case obtained a commission of Rs one crore on the housing project under the Life Mission's MoU with UAE Red Crescent.
