THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The state registered 1983 cases of COVID-19 on Friday, health minister KK Shailaja informed.

Among the new cases, 1777 persons developed the disease through contact including 109 cases without an identified source of infection. 64 persons came from abroad, while 99 persons returned from other states. 35 health workers also tested positive for the virus in the last 24 hours.

Meanwhile, 1419 coronavirus patients tested negative for the virus on Friday.

The state reported 12 deaths in the past 24 hours. The total death as of today is 203.

There are 1,76,930 persons under observation over various districts in the state including 15,140 in hospitals. On Friday alone, 2128 persons were admitted to hospitals.

In the past 24 hours, 35,825 samples were tested. A total of 13,49,071 samples were sent for testing so far.

The state declared 32 new hotspots on Friday, while 8 places were removed from the list of hotspots. At present, there are 607 hotspots in the state.
