THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: As there is a violation of rules by receiving foreign aid of Rs 20 crores without consent for the construction of apartments in Vadakkancherry which involves a commission fraud of Rs 4.5 crores, the Union government is likely to intervene and stop the construction. Also, measures could be taken for a CBI probe on the incident.

The Union government was convinced that there were several irregularities in the Life agreement with Red Crescent. The help of the centre was never sought while framing the agreement. In order to get foreign aid, the permission of MEA must have been sought, which didn't happen. This is wrong also according to the Disaster Relief Act.

The Ministry for External Affairs asked for all papers in connection with Life Mission after the ED found out that a fifth of the agreement amount was received as commission.

Red Crescent is a non-profitable organization under the presidency of UAE ruler. The UAE government and Red Crescent have also sought details regarding the money given as part of flood relief.
