NEW DELHI: Even as the State government and Opposition are raising protest against handing over of Trivandrum airport to Adani Group, the company started the initial work for taking over the operation of the airport.
The company is planning to make sub-contracts with foreign companies and it has started discussion with them in this regard. The first contract will be made for Ahmedabad, Mangaluru and Lucknow airports, which were earlier handed over to the Adani group.
The Airport Authority of India had asked the Adani group to take charge of the operation of the three companies before November. There are hints that The Munich airport company in Germany may be ready for the sub-contract.
Adani is also holding discussions with certain other foreign companies. Though the decision has been taken by the Centre to handover the airport to Adani, final call will be taken only after the high court’s verdict on petitions filed against the privatisation comes out.
Along with this, the Centre will also have to overcome the opposition of the political parties in Kerala.
Meanwhile, the land acquisition for the airport has plunged into uncertainty as the State government says that they won’t take the initiative for it “if Adani comes”.
The landholders have also taken the stand that it will not offer their land for private companies.
