THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The state registered 2172 cases of COVID-19 on Saturday, health minister KK Shailaja informed.

Among the new cases, 1964 persons developed the disease through contact including 153 cases without an identified source of infection. 52 persons came from abroad, while 102 persons returned from other states. 54 health workers also tested positive for the virus in the last 24 hours.

Meanwhile, 1292 coronavirus patients tested negative for the virus on Saturday.

The state reported 15 deaths in the past 24 hours. The total death as of today is 218.

Over various districts in the state, 1,80,249 are under observation including 16,511 in hospitals. 2699 persons were admitted to hospitals in the past 24 hours.

Tests have been increased considerably. In the past 24 hours, 37, 027 samples were tested. As of today, a total of 13,86,775 samples were tested in the state.

The government declared 25 new hotspots in the state while removing 17 places from the list. Currently, there are 616 hotspots in Kerala.
