THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Speaker Sreeramakrishnan said everyone took time to speak in the assembly. The discussion lasted for one and a half hours more time than permitted. Opposition leader more time than permitted. In case of the no-confidence motion against the government, the chief minister will have to explain these matters. When the government clarifies its achievements and positions, it cannot be prevented. This has never happened before. The Speaker pointed out that the reply of the then chief minister during the last no-confidence motion debate was for nearly five and a half hours.

The speaker said the opposition and the ruling party were given opportunity to speak in the Assembly. There’s nothing new in that. The remarks against me in the assembly were unfortunate. What happened yesterday is something that should not have happened in the history of the Parliament. The motion against the Speaker was not debated under Article 179C of the Constitution. Knowing that, it was not right for someone with parliamentary experience to speak. He said he had not received any complaint from the Kerala Congress’ regarding violation of the whip.
