KOCHI: Elections to select the new board of directors of Kerala Bank have been stayed by the Kerala High Court. The proceedings have been stayed for three weeks. The High Court ruled that holding state-wide elections now would be a violation of COVID rules.

In the current scenario, holding elections will affect the state government's COVID defence activities. Justice Raja Vijayaraghavan pointed out that in such a scenario, holding elections could lead to transmission of the disease. The action of the high court is at a time when the final voter lists are to be released today.

The elections to the board of directors were decided to be held on September 25. Congress leaders also the chiefs of bank's governing body approached the high court pointing that the steps taken by the government for the elections were illegal.
