PALAKKAD: The excise seized three and a half kilos of gold and Rs six lakh during a vehicle inspection. The gold and the cash smuggled from Pollachi were seized at Meenakshipuram check post. The team arrested Satheesh and Krijesh, natives of Anchumoorthy Mangalam in Alathur. After completing the proceedings the confiscated gold and money were handed over to the customs. Gold was in the form of biscuits and jewellery.

The excise team included excise inspector C P Madhu, preventive officer J R Ajith and civil excise officer Suresh. It is not clear for whom they smuggled the gold and money. The police said they will be questioned as part of the probe.
