IDUKKI: The master’s faithful friend, Kuvi will remain the favourite of Idukki district police dog squad. Kuvi, the pet dog of Danushka, the two-year-old who lost her life in Pettimudy landslip, helped the police to trace the body of his friend Danushka. It was widely discussed in social media when Kuvi was taken over by the police and the possibility of including the dog in the dog squad was almost conformed. Though technically Kuvi is a member of the dog squad, it will stay as the pet dog of the squad, the officials said. No training or duty will be given to Kuvi, clarified DIG Prakash who holds the charge of the police dog squad.
Kuvi was wandering through the debris left by the landslide in Pettimudy in search of his friend, Danushaka. By sniffing and digging the soil the dog helped the police to find the corpse of Danushka, thus grabbing the attention of an entire land. The whole Kerala heard the news with tearful eyes. The body of the two year old was found in Gravel Bank area, four kilometres away from Pettimudy. The dog was sniffing that area and it caught the attention of one of the rescuers. Every day the dog came near the banks of river where its dear ones lost their lives and barked staring at the river. The rescue team found it to be mysterious and later they pulled out the body of the two-year-old from the river.
Expecting the return of Dhanushka, Kuvi wandered in Pettimudy for many days. The district dog squad trainer and civil police officer Ajith Madhav found the tired dog sleeping, later he provided food and brought the dog back to its normal life. The dog squad trainer showed great interest to take Kuvi home. Meanwhile, state police head intervened and decided to take necessary steps to protect the dog. As the dog is too old to provide training, it will enjoy the status of the pet dog and will remain a part of the dog squad. Kuvi will be given all consideration and care that the district police squad of Idukki enjoys.
