THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The public are struggling as the Indian postal department’s mail service counters are closed at 8.00 pm. The RMS which was functioning 24 hours earlier, without any notification stopped its 24- hour services all of a sudden and this has put the public in trouble. The officials are not willing to inform the public about the change in service time. When asked the officers of the morning hours said they don’t know about the actual timing.
When a person went to send an urgent letter at 8.30 pm the other day, he was not well received by the employee in the counter. The employee who joined Thiruvananthapuram division two days back replied in a harsh tone to the customer when he informed about the urgency in sending the letter. “Don’t you have basic courtesy I told you it is impossible to function now”, shouted the employee.
When people reach the counters after their busy work schedule the counters are seen to be closed. The counters which are opened at 6.30 am will be closed by 8.00 pm. The nation’s decision to go ahead with the unlock strategy has initiated the public to restore their normal life. The postal department is acting indifferent to the public during this crucial situation. If the authority is asked about the reason for not having 24 hour service they will reply that they continue with their 24 hour service.
Adhering to COVID protocols the public have travel restrictions during night hours, considering those restrictions RMS is not providing its service after 8.0 0pm, the officials told Kerala Kaumudi online. Owing to Onam the government had relaxed stringent restrictions in almost all sectors still RMS is seemingly unwilling to change their decision. The officials don’t have a clear idea about when the restriction will be lifted. The officials explained that as the government relaxes the restrictions during night hours RMS too will think about opening of counters after 8.00 pm.
