NEW DELHI: Thiruvananthapuram MP Shashi Tharoor has become a lone voice in the Congress party after the contradictory stands taken by him on issues of Thiruvananthapuram airport and the letter sent to Sonia Gandhi. Meanwhile, Sabarinathan MLA has made a Facebook post praising Shashi Tharoor. He said when opposition parties are constantly taking jibes at Tharoor, he would like to support and speak up for Tharoor. Sabarinathan further says that Tharoor is a perfect fit for Congress as his political stand aligns with the broadmindedness of Congress party and with the pluralistic culture of India.
Tharoor might have different opinions on various issues. If they contradict with the party’s stand then he should amend his opinion after discussing it with the party leadership. Sabarinathan’s Facebook post comes in the wake of senior leaders openly criticising Tharoor for his anti-party stand taken on different issues.
Sabarinathan’s Facebook post is as follows:
Through my Facebook post, I am not trying to show how the Indian public reverences Shashi Tharoor. Dr Shashi Tharoor as an author and parliamentarian has presented— The Citizenship Amendment Bill, National Education Policy, Youth’s aspirations, Secular thoughts, Nehruvian ideas, The expectations from a future India— in an elegant way to the Indian public, especially to Indian youth.
When the Central government stopped MPs fund, Shashi Tharoor using his global connections had tried his best to serve his constituency at the time of Covid-19. That is why the people of Thiruvananthapuram elected him for the third time. Tharoor has always upheld the pluralistic culture of our country and the broadmindedness of Congress party and as a proud resident of Thiruvananthapuram, I have no doubt about that.
He might have different opinions on various issues but he should make amends, if needed, after consulting with the party. When opposition makes malicious campaign about him, I wish to speak for him.
