NEW DELHI: Accused R Sivadasan filed a plea in the SNC Lavalin case requesting to consider it directly when the court opens. The plea was filed at a time when the case is to be considered on Monday. It is hinted that the CBI may ask to speed up the hearing the final argument in the case. Solicitor General Tushar Mehta will appear for the CBI.
The pleas are presently considered in the court via video conference following lockdown. However, Sivadasan's lawyer told the court that a detailed hearing on Lavalin's appeals is needed and so it should therefore be postponed until the hearing resumes in the open court. The lawyer has asked the court for six weeks to prepare the argument to begin the open court proceedings.
Irregularities were found in the deal made with SNC Lavalin, a Canadian Company, for the renovation of Pallivasal, Chenkulam and Panniyar hydroelectric projects. Meantime, the Supreme Court has shifted the SNC Lavalin case to a new bench. The case has been shifted to a bench of of Justice U U Lalith and Justice Vineeth Saran. The case was so far considered by the bench led by Justice N V Ramana.
