THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The state registered 2543 cases of COVID-19 on Friday, health minister KK Shailaja has said. This is the highest single-day spike of COVID-19 positive cases in Kerala.

Among the new cases, 2260 persons developed the disease through contact including 193 cases without an identified source of infection. 75 persons came from abroad and 156 returned from other states. 52 health workers tested positive for the disease in the past 24 hours

2097 patients tested negative for the virus on Friday.

The state reported 7 COVID deaths on Friday. The total death toll is now 274.

The government declared 30 new hotspots on Friday while removing 34 places from the list. Currently, there are 599 hotspots in the state.
