THRISSUR: As the zoo in Thrissur shuts down by the end of this year, Asia's largest zoological park is getting ready to open at Puthur. In December, over 500 birds, animals, and reptiles will be brought to the Zoological Park in Puthur.

Visitors will be allowed from next year. About 30 lakh visitors are expected per year. There are plans to make facilities for trekking and safari.

The visitors can go around 4 kilometers watching the animals.

Lions and tigers will be living in places spanning acres. There'll be six feet deep trenches and electric walls. People can take a close look at the animals through viewing glass.

The project was initially created two decades back. It turned into a reality when it was included in the 2016-17 budget with share from KIIFB.

The park is 338 acres in area and which costs Rs 360 crores to construct. In 136 hectares of land, 10 lakh sapling will be planted.

The construction consists of zoo hospital, kitchen, administrative block, store and isolation block.
