THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: KSRTC finally decides to have a technical makeover within five months through implementing modern technological features like e-governance and computerisation. GPS facilities will be made available in all vehicles with connection to this facelift process. Passenger information system will be connected to GPS and through this vehicles’ live tracking will be made available. Considering the convenience of passengers the services of the live tracking app too will be made available, following which bus schedule, change in routes, live location of the bus in each route will be at the fingertips of the passengers.

The commuters can know about the seat availability in between the trips at any time. As the details regarding the speed is provided it becomes easy to observe over speeding and reckless driving, this will help to ensure the safety of travellers. KSRTC informed, as the information regarding the distance covered by each bus is obtainable, the management will have a speedy access to information to improve fleet utilisation.

By implementing management information system, the management will have immediate access to the information thus they can ensure efficiency of their services, evaluated KSRTC. Through computerisation, all details relating to employees and services will be made easily possible. 24-hour modern control centre and help desk will be opened in order to control vehicles and to help the passengers.

Modern cashless ticketing system will be implemented by connecting it to GPS. Electronic ticketing machine which accepts all kinds of credit/debit cards and national common mobility card will be implemented. This machine will also have the system for mobile ticketing. As the ticketing system has been connected to GPS the commuters will get live updates on information related to seating, it will also increase the efficiency of ticket reservation.

As part of this scheme all existing software and hardware of KSRTC will be modernised. The entire responsibility of the programme is entrusted to the managing director and the government has ordered to accomplish the entire scheme within five months. The total expense of the scheme has been estimated as Rs 16.98 crores, informed KSRTC through its official Facebook page.
