THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The state registered 1140 cases of COVID-19 on Tuesday, health minister KK Shailaja informed. Among the new cases, 1059 persons developed the disease through contact including 158 cases without an identified source of infection. 14 had returned from abroad and 36 from other states. 20 health workers tested positive for the virus in the past 24 hours.

2111 patients tested negative for the virus on Tuesday.

The state recorded 4 COVID deaths on Tuesday. At least 14,137 samples were tested during the last 24 hours. The number of samples tested had been on the decline in the last three days after touching 41,860 on August 28 when the state recorded its highest single-day count of 2,543. Currently, there are 580 hotspots in the state.
