THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Recent reports suggest that the state has witnessed a steep decline in the number of COVID tests conducted per day. While 14,137 samples were collected on Tuesday, 1140 samples tested positive for COVID-19. On Friday, 1530 persons out of 18,027 samples tested positive for COVID-19.
Normally, the authorities used to collect at least 30,000 samples per day. However, there has been a decrease in daily COVID tests in the last two days. As a result, the state reported lesser COVID cases on Monday and Tuesday. It is believed that the Onam holidays played a crucial part in the decline in sample collection. This decrease in testing number comes right after Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan announced that at least 50,000 samples will be tested every day in the state.
