KOCHI: Nandini, the mother of three-year-old, who died by swallowing coin, is protesting in front of Aluva district hospital for the past five days. Nandini said she won’t withdraw the protest until the cause of death of her child is not revealed.

The relatives of the child alleged that the ongoing investigation is intended to protect certain persons, and the postmortem report, which shows the death was caused by suffocation is also unreliable. “We will continue the protest until the government assure us to find the real cause of my child’s death,” Nandini said.

Three-year-old Prithviraj, son of Nandini and Raju, natives of Aluva died on August 2. Relatives say that the child, who was found in a serious condition after unknowingly swallowing a coin, was denied treatment in government hospitals. Even though the child was taken to Aluva taluk hospital, the hospital staff asked them to take him to Ernakulam district hospital. When they reached there with the child, they were told that he should be taken to Vandanam medical college.

“At last, when we reached at Vandanam hospital, the doctors didn’t take our case seriously and asked us to go back and feed the child with rice and banana,” the parents of Prithviraj said. The child’s mother has alleged earlier that hospitalisation was denied to the child at medical college citing that he comes from the area of the containment zone. When the relatives finally reached home, the child’s condition became severe and finally on the way to the hospital he died. However, the chemical test results indicate the child died due to suffocation and not by swallowing a coin.
