THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: An eighth standard student from Kerala has sent a letter to Prime Minister citing that she is not able to study as gundas threaten her at her home. 13-year-old Gauri Nanda, daughter of Sujith Krishna, a native of Anayara has sent a complaint letter to Prime Minister. The child has also alleged that the gundas were protected by the police. However, Assistant Commissioner of Police (Shankumugham),Aishwarya Godle has said that an enquiry has started over the complaint and nothing more could be said as of now.
In the letter, the child has said that the problems started when her father complained about the local SHO (station house officer). At the same time, sources said that attempts to compromise the case were also made. For this purpose, two persons, both of them accused in criminal cases had approached her father to compromise the case but as he stood firm on his stand, they attacked him.
The 13-year-old further said in the letter that when a complaint was lodged before the commissioner, the gundas were arrested. But in retaliation, certain police officials intervened and both of her parents were held for offences under non-bailable sections. She also added that she is not able to study under the fear of gundas.
Meanwhile, Pettah police have said that criminal cases were charged on Sujith and his wife for looting a women’s Jewellery and for keeping her in their home as captive; both of them have secured anticipatory bail.
