Kochi: Efforts to remove the debris of Alpha Serene, a flat complex in Maradu which was demolished following the SC order, from the Maradu lake has started. The debris is being removed from the lake, seven months after the demolition was held. Earlier, people had protested over the government’s apathy in removing the debris of demolished flats.
The flats in Maradu, which were built violating the coastal regulation zone (CRZ) norms were demolished on January 11 and 12, following the Supreme Court’s verdict. Even though the Alpha Serene flat was destroyed via controlled demolition, its debris fell on Maradu lake and it is after a gap of seven months that private contractor Vijay steels began to remove the debris. The company built a temporary bund before taking the debris to land with the help of machines.
