THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The presence of pythons are on the rise in Kozhikode, Alappuzha and Kollam districts. Natives of these places have started seeing pythons more often in their localities after a gap of about five years.
This startling details have emerged in the study conducted by Snake Rescue Training department. Earlier, pythons were only spotted in rural areas near the forest and only very rarely they were found in cities. They were immediately caught and released back to the forest. But now the situation has changed. Most of the snakes seen today in city areas are learnt to reached here following the two floods that occurred in Kerala.
The information available is that more than 25 pythons were spotted in these cities and the reason for this is said to be two floods in consecutive years. Most of these pythons came from Wayanad hill ranges.
The number of cobras are also increasing unlike in recent times. According to the study, currently there are ten cobras for one viper.
