Now, there is no need for a long wait to collect DNA results for closing crime cases. Sophisticated Automatic DNA extraction system has reached the forensic lab. This system provides DNA results in a fixed time as in foreign countries.

Kerala police brought this advanced system by spending half crore rupees. The system will provide DNA results within a few days and would help crucial and usual cases including rape, POCSO and robbery.

The system has been brought to the forensic lab due to the delay caused by the traditional system used in India to get DNA results. Due to increasing crimes day by day, dozens of samples are reaching forensic labs from police stations. About 4,000 samples remain untested in the DNA Section of labs with limited man power.

DNA is crucial in many cases including POCSO cases. At present DNA test takes , 10 to 30 hours, besides hours of keen observation. The inspection might vary according to the nature of the cases. The final postmortem reports also depend on forensic examination of a dead body involved in a case. The present inspection method gives results of only less than a dozen of samples. Other than the delay in pre-processing procedures, the new advanced system for DNA test is very fast in giving the result.
