Actress Mallika Sukumaran has said that the chief minister’s intervention helped to resolve an issue which she had been facing for a long time. She said that the second day after she complained to the chief minister, a team arrived and the issue was resolved by them.
“Everybody told me that I had constructed my home in a place where water logging is a recurrent phenomenon. We stayed there for eight years and no such issues had affected us. When the first flood came, we tolerated it. But when it repeated in the next year, we didn’t have a choice other than filing a complaint. We knew that flooding occurred due to encroachments in the Peppara Canal’s catchment area. However, we told the issue of waterlogging to the then minister Mathew T Thomas but nothing happened. At last, we decided to see the chief minister.
“At first, we thought that he is a CM with great commanding power but lately we thought that power has got reduced a bit. But we took an appointment and went to see him. It took only just 10 minutes, we presented the issue before him. It’s only then he came to know about the issue. On the second day after the visit, a team reached the dam site and cleaned the dam. Now there is no problem. It is just a baseless allegation that we are residing in a place where waterlogging is a regular issue,” Mallika said.
