THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The first open University in Kerala in the name of Sree Narayana Guru will have its head office in Kollam's Aashramam. The under-construction Sree Narayana Gurudeva cultural complex here and 3.82 acres land will be undertaken and handed over to the education department, minister J Mercykutty Amma told Keralakaumudi. An open air auditorium with a capacity to accommodate 900 people, a library and a conference hall will all be part of the university.
Study centres of the university will be in Chavara in the building constructed for the development of skilled works. There is a land of 10 acres here. The draft ordinance will be recognized by the cabinet on receiving permission from the law department and then handed over to the governor. The university will come into being after the governor sign the required documents. The university will start functioning in temporary buildings from October 2.
Agreements will be signed with 70 government, aided colleges for science courses. Graduate and PG courses in science will start in the university along with distance education facility fot Computer Science, Mathematics, and Statistics. Chavara Govt College, Kollam SN College, Fathima, TKM College will be among the first colleges to sign the agreement with the university.
