THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Does it is written anywhere that only DYFI men can sexually abuse, opposition leader Ramesh Chennaithala made a controversial statement on Tuesday. He made this statement when the media asked him whether the health worker who abused Covid-19 patient is a worker of NGO association, which is affiliated to Congress party. He replied that upon personal enquiry he found out that the accused is not a Congressman. Chennithala made this statement in the press conference which was organised to announce the UDF candidates for by-polls.

However, when his statement ended landed in a controversy, he justified by saying that media misquoted his words and certain quarter has tried to malign his image. “My statement was in reply to what media persons asked me and i had only asked whether only DYFI men can sexually abuse. Congress’s NGO association members also do such heinous crimes. If the next part of my statement is telecasted everything will become clear. I meant that no kind of persecution should be done against women.

Certain quarters of CPM and their cyber workers have done this act of misinterpreting my statements before also. Statewide protests and condemn is brewing against the incidents of sexual assault on two Covid-19 patients. Misrepresenting my statement is part of purported efforts to change people’s attention from the real issue. People shouldn’t let themselves fall on the trap of such people

Meanwhile, KK Shailaja, the state health minister has said that Opposition leader should resign for making such an insulting statement against womanhood. The health minister also said that the ministry will never accommodate those who insult women. The victim who was undergoing quarantine was called upon by Kulathupuzha health inspector Pradeep at his home to give Covid-19 certificate and she was sexually abused by him.

FIR states that the woman was brutally abused after her hands and legs were tied. He also brutally beat her and stuffed cloth into her mouth and she was subjected to severe assault repeatedly. The women have to go through this painful ordeal from Thursday noon to next day Friday morning. Police said he was under the influence of alcohol.
