THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The low-pressure belt formed in the south-east Arabian sea weakened. Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has also issued alerts over the anticipation of the formation of another low-pressure belt in the Bay of Bengal, near the Andhra coast. IMD said that this could strengthen northeast monsoon in Kerala.
From Thursday, there are chances for heavy rains to lash on northern parts of Kerala. Seven districts including Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur and Kasargod have already received rain alert. Meanwhile, the speed and strength of westerlies are increasing. A yellow alert is also declared in Alappuzha, Ernakulam, Idukki, Thrissur, Palakkad and Malapuram. As there are high chances for strong winds and high waves in the Kerala coast, the fisherman has been advised not to venture into the sea.
