THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: State government creates a new block for paediatric oncology. It was built at a cost of Rs 11.39 crores. This block is exclusively reserved for cancer treatment of children and it is designed in a child-friendly manner. Health Minister KK Shylaja has shared details of this new block through her Facebook page.

“Cancer treatment of children is complicated and time-consuming. Along with their children’s treatment parents also suffer from psychological and financial crises. Despite this, the trauma caused to both parents and children for staying away from their homes for a long time for treatment is also a serious one. The paediatric oncology department is built considering these facts,” the minister said in her Facebook post.

Cancer found in children could be permanently resolved if treatment is started early but they are time-consuming and complicated too. Along with their children’s treatment parents also suffer from psychological and financial crises. Despite this, the trauma caused to both parents and children for staying away from their homes for a long time for treatment is also a serious one.

The paediatric oncology department is built considering these facts. For children, this block will become a second home. The newly built haematology and oncology block of Kannur Thalassery Malabar cancer centre will be inaugurated by Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan via video conference on September 14th, at 11.30 am. About Rs11.39 crores were spent on this new building.

This block is exclusively made for cancer treatment of children and it is designed in a child-friendly manner. Apart from separate wards for Chemotherapy, operation theatre, ICU and other facilities, the block will also have playground, library and theatre for children.

The block also hosts employment training facilities for children’s mother and will enable children to continue their education along with their treatment. This block breaks away the traditional concept of a hospital by providing attractive walls for children.
