NEW DELHI: Central government informed the parliament that ED’s probe in the gold smuggling case will continue along with the parallel investigations launched by customs and NIA in the case. In July, a customs preventive officer in Kochi informed the central government that he is suspicious about the presence of illegal gold in diplomatic baggage from Dubai. In a detailed enquiry, gold was found out from the diplomatic baggage. The centre also told the Parliament that 16 were held so far in the case.

“The investigation agencies have found out that one of the accused is politically influential and more details in this regard cannot be revealed as it could affect the probe,”

Anurag Thakur, minister of state for finance said in a written reply to the question posed by Anto Antony MP.
