THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: As there is a possibility of extremely heavy rainfall, four districts of the state have been put on red alert. Idukki, Malappuram, Kannur and Kasargod are the four districts. Wayanad, Kozhikode, Palakkad, Thrissur, Ernakulam and Kottayam districts are on orange alert. Traffic has been banned from 7 am to 7 pm in Kannur and hilly areas where heavy rains are continuing for the past three days.
As the water level is rising in Iritty River, people living on the shores were asked to move to houses of relatives. People have been evacuated from districts where there is a possibility of land and mudslides. There are heavy rains in Palakkad. The shutters of Malampuzha and Pothundi dams are likely to be opened due to the increase in water flow.
The people living in hilly areas including Mannarcaud were directed to shift to their relatives’ houses. Authorities informed that the thunderbolt team stranded in the forest following increase in water flow in Bhavani River in Attappady, will return today.
Extensive agricultural damages were witnessed in the heavy winds at Mangattukara area coming under Angamaly municipality in Ernakulam. Big trees uprooted on top of two houses in heavy winds that blew last evening. Four houses were partially damaged. Electric lines snapped after trees fell on top of it.
