IDUKKI: The government gave only a financial aid of Rs one lakh to the kin of the victims of Pettimudi tragedy. An aid of Rs 5 lakh was announced but only a lakh was given. The government’s explanation is that the remaining four lakh would be given to the Disaster Management Authority. The government said one lakh was paid only for technical procedures. There was a controversy earlier that when Rs 10 lakh was given to the families of the victims of the Karipur plane crash, only Rs 5 lakh was announced for Pettimudi victims.
An order has also been issued for the families of those killed in the Karipur plane crash.
The financial aid of Rs 10 lakh announced for the kin of Karipur victims will be given. Meantime, the revenue department said Rs 5 lakh would be given to the kin of Pettimudi victims.
Up to Rs 4 lakh can be given without special order in case of natural calamities. The government had announced a compensation of Rs 5 lakh in Pettimudi. The revenue department said an additional Rs one lakh was sanctioned from the Chief Minister's Disaster Relief Fund. An amount of Rs four 4 lakh will be sanctioned from the Disaster Management Authority. As the Karipur tragedy was not a natural disaster, the entire amount was sanctioned from the Chief Minister's Disaster Relief Fund, the revenue department informed.
