THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: DGP Tomin J Thachankary gets clean chit in the bribery case. The incident for the case happened when he was transport commissioner. The case states that he asked bribe from Palakkad RTO when he was serving as transport commissioner. The audio clip which substantiated Thachankary asking bribe also surfaced during that period but the vigilance report states that the audio clip could not be considered as evidence against him. The vigilance report also says that even though the case will not stand as per the prevention of corruption act, departmental probe could be conducted.

The vigilance case was registered against him during the tenure of Jacob Thomas as vigilance director. Tomin Thachankery who was promoted as DGP on the vacancy created by Yasin Mohammed’s retirement, is currently the seniormost IPS officer in the state, after DGP Lok Nath Behra.

Palakkd RTO Sharavanan from whom it is alleged that Thachankary has sought bribe says that he had not recorded the audio of their conversation. The probe team was also not able to find the phone in which Sharavanan called Thachankary. The special investigation unit of vigilance submitted a report before the vigilance court here citing that no evidence is available against Thachankary.
