THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Sree Narayana Guru's sculpture installed by the state government as part of the centenary of 'we have no caste' proclamation will be unveiled by chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan on Monday at 9.30 am at the Observatory Hills near Museum.
The sculpture will have a temporary glass roof. A permanent mandapam will be constructed later. Preparations for the unveiling ceremony has been completed. A copper plate has been fixed on a 10 ft tall seat. Seats and other preparations for the inauguration have been set up.
Minister AK Balan will preside the function while minister Kadakampalli Surendran will be the chief guest.
At first, the plan was to install Gurudevan's sculpture without a mandapam. However, devotees and cultural leaders demanded a mandapam which was reported by Keralakaumudi. Following this, a glass roof was installed over the statue.
This is the first statue of Sree Narayana Guru installed by the state government. There will be a garden and seats for visitors along with the sculpture. Wall sculptures depicting the life of Guru will also be installed. The works of the wall and garden is yet to start.
