PARAVUR: A mother and her five children are living in a shack by the roadside here with a board outside which reads 'organs for sale' to raise money for the treatment of her children. The shack was built by Malappuram native Shanthi and family near Mulavukad police station in Container Road on Sunday. The family was staying at a rented house in Varappuzha.

The panchayat authority and police attempted to dissuade the family they didn't oblige. Following this, the district administration and legislators intervened. VD Satheeshan MLA with the help of Lion's Club paid six months' salary and shifted them back to the house they were staying. The medical treatment for Shanthi's daughter was arranged at Aster Medicity for free.

Shanthi's family of four sons and a daughter started living in a rented house in Varappuzha one year back. She was struggling to find the money for the treatment of her daughter. Her elder son is under treatment after he got seriously injured in an accident some years back. Another son is suffering from stomach related ailments. As both her sons lost their jobs during the lockdown, the income came to a sudden halt.

The rent was not paid for three months and Shanthi and family left the house after taking the remaining of the advance amount paid to the owner. Her husband abandoned the family years back.
