THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The court rejected government’s demand to withdraw the case in connection with the ruckus in the assembly. The Thiruvananthapuram CJM court rejected the demand of the government. The court said the case could not be written off as it is a case of destruction of public property. The court’s crucial order are in the case involving Ministers E P Jayarajan and K T Jaleel. V Sivankutty, K Ajith, Kunhammad Master and C K Sadasivan are the other accused.
When LDF Government came to power, a plea was filed to close the case. Other proceedings were stayed as this plea was pending. Opposition leader Ramesh Chennithala had approached the court against the move to withdraw the case.
The ruckus was witnessed in the assembly when K M Mani was presenting the budget in 2015. The LDF MLAs had tried to prevent the then finance minister K M Mani, who was facing a vigilance probe in the bar scam case, from presenting the state budget. This led to unprecedented incidents in the assembly never witnessed before. In the melee, the speaker’s chair, mike and computer were destroyed. The charge sheet mentioned destruction of public property worth Rs 2 lakh.
