KOCHI: Minister K T Jaleel has said he was ready to resign if the CPM and the LDF asked him to resign. “In the court of conscience, “I’m not at all in the dock and I’m not going to resign on the basis of allegations,” Jaleel said in an interview given to a private news channel.

The Minister also gave his explanation for hushing up his interrogation by the NIA. “There has been no lapse from my part in handling the controversy and I have never tried to link the controversy to the beliefs. I had informed the chief minister before going to give my statements though I had not mentioned anything about the procedures,” he explained.

“I have no role in the gold smuggling case and I had not received any gift or money. And in this case, I have no moral liability. I trust NIA and they questioned me on the basis of certain complaints against me,” he said.

The minister said there was no lapses in the distribution of Quran. In this cultural exchange that has been going on for decades, there is no protocol or law violation. “It was I who gave instruction to send Quran to C-apt and I did that as a minister,” he said.

The minister added that “the League foresees defeat in many constituencies in Malappuram. To overcome this crisis, the League is spreading false stories against me. Their aim is to destroy me as I’m a representative of ant-League politics”.
