THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Kerala recorded 5376 cases of COVID-19 on Wednesday, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan told the media here. This is the highest single-day spike in the state. Among the new cases, 4424 persons developed the disease through contact including 640 cases without an identified source of infection. 64 persons who returned from abroad and 140 persons who came from other states tested positive for the disease in the past 24 hours. 99 health workers also tested positive for the virus in the past 24 hours.
2591 coronavirus patients tested negative for the virus in the past 24 hours. There are 42,786 active cases in the state.

In the last 24 hours, 51,200 samples were sent for testing.
Currently, there are 641 hotspots in the state with the addition of 17 regions and the removal of 15.
