KOCHI: Details of the preliminary investigation by CBI on life mission scandal is out. The preliminary investigation report suggests that foreign assistance was sought for the government project sans due procedures. It also state that life mission agreement was part of the government project. The report also reiterates that as the CEO of life mission is a government representative, govt cannot backtrack from the responsibility of the project.
The report said that the government claim that the state government has not sought foreign help directly will not stand. Even though the financial agreement is between Unitac and consulate, govt is the second party in this pact. The agency also asked if the government cannot be held accountable for the foreign help, then why the government land was given to the consulate for the project.
The agency report also recommends that as it is a government project, graft at bureaucratic levels should be also probed. The agency has also received directions to fasten the probe on life mission case.
Earlier CBI has charged a case against Unitac builders for seeking foreign help without due permission for building homes under life mission. The agency has also conducted raids on the firm’s offices on Friday. The testimony of Santhosh Eapen, the first accused and owner of Unitac will be taken immediately. Sources say that the agency will likely raid life mission’s office in Secretariat.
