THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Reports said giving plum posts to A P Abdullakutty and Tom Vadakkan who joined the BJP barely a year ago, has irked the state leadership. The two were elevated after neglecting senior leaders like Kummanam Rajasekharan and Sobha Surendran. After quitting the governor’s post of Mizoram, Kummanam is active in the Kerala politics. Reports said the RSS is bit concerned for avoiding Kummanam. It is hoped that leaders including Kummanam will be considered in the reshuffle of the Union Cabinet.
The state chief of the party said there is no dissatisfaction in the party and the announcement of the new members is with the consent of the state leadership. Others too are also of the same opinion. In the case of Abdullakutty, though there is strong resentment in the party beyond groups, no one is ready for a public response.
Reports said the central leadership considers the inefficiency of the state leaders as the reason why the party is unable to make gains in Kerala. That is why new experiments are happening. It is concluded that the central leadership is targeting the number of people joining the BJP ahead of the assembly elections. Besides party members, a number of bigwigs from other sections of society also need to join the party for it to grow in the state. By giving Abdullakutty a top post, the party is conveying the message that joining the BJP is a rewarding offer.
It is expected that Abdullakutty's post will help to bring the minorities closer to the party. By giving Abdullakutty the plum post, the party will be able to prove nationally that it is not an anti-Muslim party. Without intervening in the controversy, Abdullakutty is keeping aloof from everything.
