MALAPPURAM: A woman, who recently tested negative for COVID-19, lost her twin babies after hospitals refused to treat her. The unborn twin babies died while the pregnant woman was undergoing treatment at the Kozhikode Medical College Hospital. Following this, the woman husband said that he is considering to take legal action against the hospitals.

Malappuram Kizhisseri native Sahla Tasleem, who was 9-months pregnant, was rushed to the Medical College after four hospitals refused to admit her. According to her husband NC Shareef, Shahla was complaining of severe pain while the hospitals refused to treat her as they were adamant about producing her PCR test result and not an antigen test result. "Sahla was first taken to the Manjeri Medical College at 4.30 am on Saturday. However, they refused to treat her due to the absence of a PCR test result. Though we took her to three other hospitals including a private hospital, none of them was ready to admit her. We finally rushed her to Kozhikode Medical College where she was admitted by evening 6 pm," Shareef said.

Sahla, who had tested positive for COVID-19, underwent treatment at the Manjeri Medical College and got discharged on September 15 after her antigen test result returned negative. Though her antigen tests returned negative, hospitals were not ready to accept this. Though a private hospital in Mukkam was ready to admit her following an antigen test, they later referred her to the Medical College as scan reports showed that the heartbeats of the babies appeared to be declining. The babies died during the cesarean section on Sunday evening.
