THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Indian Medical Association has demanded to declare a health emergency in the state. Authorities of the association have stated that it will send a letter to the chief minister citing this demand. “More stringent measures should be taken to control the worsening Covid-19 situation in the state for this a health emergency should be declared,” IMA said.

Government sources say that Covid-19 cases could increase to 10,000 per day in the coming days. If such a situation comes then it would be unbearable to the existing health infrastructure in the state. “Therefore, the government should take adequate steps to regulate the situation that is likely to arise in the coming days,” IMA said. The association’s statement comes in the wake of the government's move to convene an all party meeting to discuss the covid-19 situation in the state.

People should be convinced about the real-time situation in the state. Stringent measures should be taken to prevent the rapid spread of the disease. Covid-19 regulations followed presently should be implemented more strictly. Rapid spread of the disease is witnessed among health workers and also among the commoners. Hospitals are being run with full-capacity. IMA is demanding a health emergency considering the plight of health workers.

In Kerala, a huge spike is witnessed everyday on per day count of covid cases. In the past 28 days, one lakh Covid-19 cases were registered in the state.
