THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Kerala government will not be able to prevent CBI probe into the Life Mission scam like how West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee attempted to prevent the probe into Saradha and Rose Valley scams. As per the Foreign Contribution (Regulation) Act (FCRA), CBI is entitled to probe into foreign financial aid of more than Rs 1 crore. The Union Home Ministry has issued a notification regarding this on 27 October 2011. The agency does not need permission from the central, state governments launching an investigation. The state government will not be able to overcome the FCRA passed by the parliament.

A year ago, a case against Good Samaritan Project of India (GSPI) and Catholic Reformation Literacy Society (CRLS) for alleged misappropriation of charitable funds from Holand was handed over to the CBI by the government.

However, reports suggest that the state government had sought legal advice on cancellation of CBI's FIR regarding Life Mission scam. Later, it considered issuing an ordinance against CBI probe. Sources suggest that the Legal department has opposed these moves.
