CHALAKUDY: Dancer RLV Ramakrishnan, who had recently attempted suicide by taking an overdose of sleeping pills, has recovered his health. While reports suggest that Ramakrishnan attempted suicide after accusing the Sangeetha Nataka Academy of discrimination, the dancer gave a statement to police without pointing fingers at anyone. He informed the police that he attempted suicide after feeling dejected as his application to participate in the academy’s online cultural festival was rejected by the academy. However, Ramakrishnan has not mentioned anything about being subjected to caste discrimination. Following this, police said that it will not register a case in this regard.
Ramakrishnan was found lying unconscious at Kunissery Raman Smaraka Kalagriham on Saturday evening. It was later revealed that he had attempted suicide by taking an overdose of sleeping pills. Meanwhile, Sangeetha Nataka Academy chairperson KPAC Lalitha has denied the allegations against the academy. While claiming that the phone conversation circulating in her name was a fake one, Lalitha added that the academy had not even started inviting applications for the event.
On Sunday, several political parties and Dalit outfits launched widespread protests against the academy while demanding a detailed probe regarding the incident.
