KOTTAYAM: Sources say that the conspiracy behind the honey trap for a gold merchant who runs jewellery in the heart of the town near Kottayam, started from a rummy centre in the town. The honey trap group hatched the plot to trap the gold merchant, from the rummy centre in Manarcaud crown club, where he is a regular visitor. Police have got information that they have also similarly trapped many others but it could only be confirmed after the mastermind behind this crime comes into police net. Praveen Kumar aka Tsunami, aged 34 and Muhammed Haneesh from Malappuram (24) who were earlier arrested in connection with the case were sent on remand after presenting before the court.

Crown club aka ‘the trap’

The honey trap group started conspiring against the gold merchant from the Manarcaud crown club, from where 18 lakh were seized in a police raid two months ago. The plan was hatched by an infamous Gunda who also controlled this rummy centre. The gold merchant who was ‘honey-trapped,’ was a regular visitor of this illegal rummy centre. The gunda group who was convinced by his expanse of wealth later decided to honey trap him. Sources say that he was brought here using women as part of their wider plan.

Lakhs were given as salary

Muhammed Haneesh, a Malappuram native and college student was summoned to Kottayam for playing rummy with the gold merchant. He was given the job with a salary of Rs two lakh per month. Haneesh was an expert in making treacherous moves in rummy. Thus, Haneesh was employed to steal the wealth of rich people who came there to play rummy. Presently there exist criminal cases against Haneesh in Malappuram district.

Gunda’s lover held

Presently probe is going on to find out the woman, who was getting ready to take nude pictures with the gold trader. Gunda’s lover who was one of the master brains behind the honey trap was held by the police. Even though she was grilled by the police, no other information was received about other accused. Only if the chief conspirators of the honey trap gets into police custody, whereabouts of the woman who was set for the honey trap will be revealed. The probe is going on under the leadership of district police chief G Jayadevan.
